LSS Breathes New Life into Toledo Area Ministries Personal Needs Pantries

Another casualty of the closing of Toledo Area Ministries was the Personal Needs Pantries. LSS was contacted by two concerned Toledo pastors whose churches have been long and deeply involved in the Personal Care Ministry. Both Pastor Jerry Rayl of First St. John and Pastor Al Swartz of Grace, along with their volunteers, said the need is great and the use of an assessor was high on their list of needs to start up again.

A phone call to Pathstone Corp. has gotten the search under way for a person to fill the assessor position. Pathstone awards grants to those 55 and over to work in various positions in the community. We should have an assessor on board by the end of February.

What does one do when they don't have the resources to buy soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, toilet paper and all those other items that most of us take for granted? Churches can call LSS at 419-243-9178 and ask for the personal needs assessor in order to refer someone to this important ministry. LSS follows the federal guidelines on income.

Could your church become a provider of personal care products? The need is great, and there are now only two churches involved when there were six. Please consider becoming involved in this ministry. Contact Joyce Willier 419-243-9178 for information on how to get started.
